Sea thing
"Sea Thing" is a captivating sculpture that plunges the viewer into the primordial depths of the ocean, long before the advent of human existence. Crafted from a combination of meticulously sculpted glass, aged bronze, and iridescent, subtly shifting polymers, it evokes the alien beauty of ancient seafloor coral. The forms are not immediately recognizable as any current species, but rather suggest the colossal, intricate, and sometimes eerie structures that might have grown on Earth's seabed millions of years ago.
The glass elements, in hues of deep sapphire, emerald, and hints of phosphorescent violet, capture and refract light in a way that mimics the ethereal glow of deep-sea organisms and the way sunlight might have dappled through ancient, shallower waters. The bronze, patinated to resemble encrusted barnacles and mineral deposits, roots the piece in the immense timescales of geological formation. The polymers, woven with subtle, almost imperceptible filaments, create a sense of organic growth and delicate, unfurling fronds.
"Sea Thing" stands as a silent testament to the Earth's enduring natural processes and the incredible, often unseen, life that flourished in its oceans for unfathomable eons, a constant source of wonder that continues to evolve and inspire.
